About
My name is Wesley Cope, I have also been know as 'Wattz' since 1997. I was born 1980 and raised in Columbia, SC. I'm married with two children and currently live in Charlotte, NC. When I was younger I had a passion for video games and electronics, with a bad habit of taking things a part and trying to put them back together again. When I was 8 (1988), my parents bought a Commodore 128 with a small Okidata dot matrix printer and some games. This computer started to steal my attention away from my NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). I begin by copying the example programs (code) from the manuals over and over making small modifications here and there to see how the program would react, thus leading to my passion for programming.
My professional existence ranges from encryption and communications programming for the US Air Force to .com start-ups. I am fluent in many programming languages, the ones that stick out are: C, C++, Java, Javascript, Python, PHP. Also extensive knowledge of Objective-C, Ruby, and Erlang. I also have deep experience with Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks, and Inkscape. With about 10 years of experience in developing websites, web applications and occasionally developing for desktop and mobile devices.
I have a love for the world of Open Source and try to contribute when I can on various projects. From framework patches for Django or PrototypeJS to full-fledged projects I have started, like OpenSway. I am always around to try and help as much as I can, whether solving a problem or finding a solution for a unique situation. I enjoy reinventing the wheel just to see how things roll and studying/reading books on technology from programming theory to How-To books on new programming languages.
If you want to find me to talk or anything, you can find me on EFNet in #php, or on Freenode in #jquery, #django, or #xulrunner. My nickname on there is, you guessed it, wattz. You can send me a /msg on irc or just contact me
